Art Classes at Bullclough Art School
We are delighted to be partnering with the award-winning Bullclough Art School to offer our guests a wide range of inspiring creative experiences in the purpose-built studio at Leek with beautiful views across the landscape. Under the guidance of Nellie Shepherd and her expert tutors, students will have the opportunity to learn something new or develop existing skills.
Treat yourself to a stay in the natural and inspiring setting of Wildhive Callow Hall and release your inner creativity with one of the Bullclough Art Courses which we have specially selected for our guests.
Arrive the day before your art course begins and Nellie Shepherd from Bullclough will join you for an introductory talk over drinks or dinner (optional).
The school is equipped with the finest materials which are included alongside expert tuition in the course fee as well as refreshments, tea and cakes. Transport is available to and from Bullclough if required.
Return to the comfort of Wildhive Callow Hall for drinks and dinner from our seasonal menus followed by a relaxing night's sleep in a luxury woodland hive, treehouse or homely bedroom.

Expressive Still Life
At Bullclough, still-life is re-imagined and set free! There are no limits to the possibilities and a wealth of beautiful resources and settings to inspire you. Come and be amazed at how you can inject energy and emotion into your work. All levels, mixed media.

Ink & Wash Sketches
On this two day course you will learn how to create ink and watercolour sketches. You will be amazed at how even the simplest compositions can be enhanced by adding watercolour. Inspired by the beauty of the surrounding landscape, you will be shown how to mix a range of colour palettes and use various techniques to apply colour to bring your sketches to life. Suitable for beginners and improvers.

Painting en Plein Air
Painting en plein air oils into landscape at Bullclough with the brilliant Colin Halliday is an experience not to be missed. Working en plein air gives you the opportunity to create the emotional and sensory dimensions of a landscape. Oils (but you are welcome to also work with acrylics if you wish). All levels welcome.

5* Summer School
A complete creative art retreat week including cocktails and canapés on the first night.
Five days of intensive art practise covering drawing skills, sketch book creating, different appraoches to landscape painting ranging from representational to expressive abstract. Using mediums of your choice you will have expert tuition and individual tutorials from a selection of our tutors here at Bullclough. All levels welcome.

Deconstructing the Landscape
An amazing opportunity (not to be missed if you are into abstract painting), to learn from a great abstract artist and tutor. Deconstruct (reduce something) to its constituent parts in order to reinterpret it. All levels welcome.

Contemporary Charcoal Landscapes
This three-day remarkable course will begin with lots of demonstrations and tasks that will help you to get to know your tools: the types of charcoal, what marks they can make and how they can be used with different rubbers, cloths, brushes, and paper surfaces. All levels welcome.
